The Curriculum

_0690017.jpgLeckby pupils (Year 9) enjoy a curriculum which embraces the core subjects of English (Language and Literature), Mathematics and Science (taught separately as Biology, Chemistry and Physics) as well as two modern languages, Spanish and French. In addition they study Art, Drama, DT (Graphic design), Geography, History, Music and RS. The aim of this year’s work is to provide a solid foundation before pupils embark on their chosen GCSEs. Decisions on which subjects to pursue at this level are made towards the end of the year, after consultation between teachers, pupil and parents.

Throughout Leckby, pupils have the opportunity to take part in a growing programme of visits and workshops associated with their curriculum. Our photograph shows one pupil proudly showing off the fruits of their labour resulting from a workshop with a local Silversmith. Specialist games staff encourage participation in a wide range of familiar sports as well as introducing new ones to these older pupils.

English Language, Mathematic and Science are studied to GCSE level by everyone and the majority will study a modern foreign language, French or Spanish; some will decide to do both. In addition we offer Art, DT, English Literature, Geography, History, Latin, Music and PE. In ICT all pupils follow a course leading to the ECDL qualification. Pupils sit their GCSE Science at the end of this year and have the opportunity to study ‘Additional Science’ in Thornton (Year 11) which leads to a further GCSE. This exam and all the other exams are sat at the end of Thornton.
