Operation Christmas Child
We will be collecting shoe boxes again this year for children caught in the midst of wars, natural disasters and in extreme poverty. It would be wonderful if every child in school could make up a box for this very worthwhile cause. Leaflets will be coming home with the Interim Reports tomorrow. If you require further labels these can be downloaded from www.samaritanspurse.uk.com click on ‘how to fill a shoe box' and then on the second item ‘download boy/girl labels'. Shoe boxes should be brought to school during the week beginning Monday 3rd November.
Christmas Wreath Making Mornings
Friends are delighted to announce that Jane Kearl has very kindly offered to hold two of her fabulous Christmas wreath making sessions this year. They will be held on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th November at Clare Read's house in Walshford. The sessions will run from 9 until 12 noon (ish) and places cost £30.00 which covers everything you need to create your wreath as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, mince pies and chocolate brownies. There are only 20 places on each day so please telephone Clare on 07711 917375 to book your place.
Cambridge Chamber Consort - 15th November, 7.30 p.m. Topcliffe Church
The Chamber Choir will be joining the renowned Cambridge Chamber Consort - a professional choir founded by Ruth and Dan Sladden and made up of Oxbridge Choral Scholars - for a performance of the Faure Requiem to raise funds for the Cundall 50 Appeal. Form 4 Maths Morning
|
On the 14th October Form 4 had their maths morning. We thought it was a great success. There were lots of mathematical games and puzzles to solve. We thought that the train puzzle was the hardest. It was definitely the most puzzling! A very big thank you to Miss Stroud and Miss Macro for a fabulous morning. Matthew Garrett & Matthew Ford |
Form 6 Trip to Nottingham Space Centre
|
On Friday 10th October a very excited form 6 set off from Cundall by coach heading to the National Space Centre as part of transport week. On that day we saw 3 types of transport coach, space rockets and Mario cart, which Mr Sample was surprisingly good at. We got there and went straight into a 360◦ cinema/Who Wants to be a Millionaire room. There we watched a film on the planets and every 5 minutes answer a question. We then looked round the centre and went on the space simulator which flung and bounced us around. We had a great day and we all loved it. Thank you to our form teachers for taking us. REMINDER - Bring and Buy cake stalls in Pre-Prep (3.00 p.m.) and Main School (5.00 p.m.) car parks tomorrow.
U9 Netball v Terrington won 11-1
A super first match for the U9s. Some good passing and shooting. IR
U10 High 5 Netball v Highfield won 5-3
It was lovely to see how the girls have progressed in their netball and to see the whole year group play. The girls were well matched against their opposition in their varying positions. At the end of the third quarter the score was 2-1. In the final quarter Highfield scored 2 further goals to win the match. A super effort Cundall!

U11 Netball v St. Mary's Hall
A long coach journey and some tough competition certainly put our girls to the test on Saturday. The ball moved around the court at hight speed with every pass being challenged by the opposition. Sheer determination paid off however, and Cundall took the game 6-3. Well done. JS
St. Mary's Hall Fixtures Saturday 11th October
U13 Hockey - Lost 6-2 U12 Hockey Drew 3-3
After a long journey all our teams played well and were quite awake considering the length of journey. Both teams had hard games but it was good to see them raising their game to the same standard as the opposition.LW
Bramcote Fixtures Wednesday 15th October
U11 Hockey - Lost 2-0 U13 Hockey - Lost 6-1
The U11s had a very good match and were unfortunate to lose but although they had masses of shots they missed by inches and Bramcote scored from 2 breaks.
The U13 Cundall girls were not physical or determined enough. They need to get stuck in both mentally and physically and not be pushed off the ball. Work needs to be done in training. LW
U13B Hockey v Minster won 11-0
The goals started coming 8 minutes into the match with the first of 4 from Harriet Green. Rosie Johnson, Kate Sabin and Ellie Aspinall were vital in defence and stopped the few chances Minster had of scoring a goal. 3-0 at half time, a chat with the forwards produced a hat-trick from Eloise Evans and 3 goals in 5 minutes from Freddie Dale. Alice Hookway made the most of an opportunity to sneak a goal in. Although goalie Harriet Bagley had a quiet game, she did save a couple of attempts on goal. Player of the match was definitely Harriet Green, who seemed to be everywhere!! SH

Saturday was a record-breaking day for the Cundall Manor Games department with 13 fixtures taking place against St Marys' Hall. Every Under 13 and Under 11 boy represented the school. Any Under 9 who had not already played a match made up the Under 9 Tigers team. An amazing achievement and my thanks go to all the staff that helped make it possible.
Mr Kempton refereed an unbelievable 42-41 Under 11C game, whilst Jonty Gill was running in a hat trick for the 4th XV. Again we lost more than we won but so what! Saturday was about opportunity, trying ones best and having a go, regardless of whether you are 1st team captain or 4th team reserve! (We didn't have one).
On Wednesday we played Bramcote from Scarborough. The 1st XV lost a highly competitive game 50-41. Despite being the dominant team for long periods we were unable to match the 6ft tall, 13 stone and 11.6sec 100m meter runner from Bramcote. My thanks go to Mr Simon Knock, former headmaster of Howsham Hall who spent Tuesday coaching our 1st and 2nd XV forwards.
I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned rest over half-term. J.Sample
Head Lice
There have been a few cases of head lice in Pre-Prep. Could all parents check their child's hair and treat if necessary.
