Hockey report
On the 22nd of January we sent a rather inexperienced U16 hockey team to compete in the Yorkshire championships in Doncaster. The other teams were Wakefield, Harrogate Grammar and Hall Cross School, two of which were going to the National Indoor Championships the following day. In the first two matches we were comprehensively beaten by Hall Cross and Wakefield, only managing a single shot in both of the matches, a break from Tom Hepworth ending with a good save from the opposing keeper. In our final match we gave a spirited performance against a strong Harrogate team. It was 0-0 and the last play was a short corner for Harrogate. In the rest of the match we had defended them brilliantly but at the crucial moment Harrogate grabbed a last gasp goal, summoning us to 3 defeats out of 3. Despite the score lines we all enjoyed the day and on behalf of the whole team we would like to thank Mr Shepherd for a great day of hockey.

Parents' Scuba Course
Scuba is a popular outdoor pursuit course in the Upper School. A number of pupils in Leckby are well on their way to obtaining their PADI Open Water qualification and pupils in Eldmire and Thornton have progressed to get their Advanced Open Water as well as Dry Suit speciality.
Last year ‘Overland Underwater' our training provider, ran a ‘parents only' course over two Saturdays. I am proposing that they do the same this year if there is sufficient interest. Once completed the qualification, which lasts a lifetime, allows you to hire equipment and dive at PADI centres all around the world.
For further details please speak to me in school or e-mail me (djchubb@tiscali.co.uk)

Hey, there's an Upper School Dinner happening....
Just a quick reminder to Eldmire K that it's their Upper School Dinner next Thursday (5Th Feb), so pick up won't be until approx 9.30pm. The theme is 70s, so we're expecting to see some groovy, way-out costumes!
Duke of Edinburgh
Parents of DoE pupils should have received a letter last week outlining the four statutory elements of the programme, namely Expedition, Skill, Voluntary and Physical Pursuit. Whilst all expedition training can be given at school, I must stress that the Scheme does not allow the other three sections to be part of the curriculum. Most pupils do seem to be making satisfactory progress in organising the Skills, Physical and Voluntary sections of the award, but if you need any advice or clarification on how your child can fulfil the criteria, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me; there is plenty of guidance material I can offer!
