Clay Pigeon Shoot - Date for the Diary
Sir Ian and Liam Botham are organising a family clay pigeon shooting day in aid of the Cundall 50 Appeal on Sunday 5th July. The shoot will take place at Raisthorpe, between Thixendale and Wharram Percy on the Wolds and we are promised a spectacular array of clays from the simulated game traps. This is a day for fathers and sons, mothers and daughters - anyone who fancies a crack at clay pigeon shooting. There will be several competitions: best father/mother and son/daughter team, best father, best daughter, best son, best team of four (2 fathers and 2 sons) and any more combinations that we can think of, so there will be plenty of opportunities to win something! It's going to be a fun day, lunch will be provided in Raisthorpe's splendid new shooting pavilion, and there will be ample refreshments.
Further details will follow shortly, but please book the date in your diary now!
Cundall Manor Summer Ball
Saturday 27th June 2009
A reminder to all parents about this prestigious event! We are currently looking for sponsors or anyone willing to make a contribution of any amount. It can be as little as £20 or as much as £5,000! Please contact Andrew Wilkinson or Sarah Whitworth via the school office if you are interested.
Summer Fair
Friends of Cundall would like to thank all parents, children and staff for their support on such a wet and blustery day! Great fun was had by all with the teachers stocks proving especially popular!
Thank you to the fathers and staff who played in the cricket match - for showing the children how it should be done!
Over £3,000 was raised for the school - thank you.
Main School Disco - Thursday 9th July - 7.30 - 9.00
This year we will be serving hot dogs and drinks at the start of the evening as we are aware that it is a rush to get children fed before returning them to school.
The ticket price, including food and drink will be £3.00 (we will still be running the ever-popular sweet stalls). There will be a ‘Prom' theme to this year's event, along with some surprises which will make the evening extra-special for all our leavers. All Main School children are most welcome.
Grand Cricket Match - Cundall Fathers' XI vs Cundall Teachers' XII
Cricket truly was the winner last Saturday as the fathers and teachers of Cundall took on the weather and managed to shoehorn a game in between some heavy showers.
Losing the toss and being asked to bat, the Teachers made a slow and steady start with Mr Shepherd and Mr Sample laying down a sound foundation. The middle of the innings saw a tumbling of wickets however, the Fathers' commitment to the cause being so great that Mr Powell and Mr Willis nearly killed each other, in a horrific collision, with Mr Powell still holding on to the catch!
The Teachers posted 104, a eminently gettable target, ... or so we thought...
A quick glance around the field at the beginning of our reply indicated that the full might of the Cundall Maths department had not been brought to bear on selection ... there were 12 fielders! A quick check of the MCC laws and a very short debate about school fees being increased [1] and play began!!!
The Fathers accumulated runs steadily throughout the innings with Mr Pearson and Mr Kent getting us close to the winning target. However, Mr P's Liquorice Allsorts proved to be completely unfathomable to many of the Fathers' batsman and wickets continued to fall steadily. Mr Willis hit out at the end of the innings and in an exciting finish it all came down to 6 runs off 6 balls to win. It was at this point that the Fathers' true Corinthian spirit kicked in! Some very generous and charitable umpiring (no doubt induced by [1]!), saw the Fathers come up just short and the Teachers romp to an emphatic, convincing and all conquering victory!
It was a great fun morning for all, running alongside the Cundall Fair of course. Many thanks to the Teachers for raising a team and I have been asked by many if we can repeat the fixture, later on in a hopefully sunny summer?! Nigel Milton
Harewood House
On Monday Reception enjoyed a trip to Harewood House. We rushed around Monday morning collecting waterproofs, umbrellas and wellies after watching the local weather forecast. But to our amazement and delight we had the only pocket of sunshine in the whole of Yorkshire for all of the day. The children had a tour around the walled garden and learnt about different plants. We spotted chicks in the bird garden and tried to feed some ducks and geese which sadly were not hungry. Thank you to all the mums who came to help on the day and a special thank you to Mr Diclemente for the ice cream. The children came home tired, happy and thankfully dry after an exciting day out. KP
OPRO
Opro forms will be sent out with the Interim Reports, these are for parents to fill in and return direct to OPRO if they would like their child to be fitted for a mouthguard at the beginning of next term.

Then visit www.livingfrontier.co.uk to find details of Roman weaponry display at Greenhead Roman Army Museum, Roman Art and Archaeology at Vindolanda, home of Minimus, roman hunters at Chesters and a full Roman legion at Corbridge the highlight of the weekend is a Living History Pageant in Corbridge on Saturday May 30th from 8.00 p.m. a historical, and possibly hysterical, re-enactment using technology and time travel to cover battles from the Romans, Vikings and even the civil War. See you there! PK
U10 Red Tennis Match
Last Sunday, Ollie Saxby, Hugh Whitworth, Lucy Williams and Felix Fawcett played Knaresborough and drew and played Wetherby and lost. Some lovely tennis was played. Thank you to the boys and all the parents who gave up their Sunday morning! M-RB
Form 3 Trip to Magna
Form 3 enjoyed a fascinating day at Magna Science Adventure Centre near Sheffield. The day started with a workshop examining the importance of clean water and a chance to have a go at creating their own filters. Some of the results were really clear - it almost looked drinkable!
We spent the rest of the day exploring the air, fire, earth and water pavilions and trying our hand at all sorts of activities from operating a JCB to calculating our daily water usage. It was great to see all the children get so much out of such a stimulating learning environment and a shame we couldn't spend even longer there. SM-W

We saw some fantastic rounders in between showers. The U12 team enjoyed success again with Olivia Kirby and Ellie Watson scoring 8 and 7 rounders to be awarded a match ball. As a team they need to be more forward thinking not to take silly risks. Both U11 sides played well with some fabulous fielding by the A team and a number of beautiful catches. Well done to all. SM-W

Another eventful week!
The 1st XI became North Yorkshire champions on Monday defeating St Aidans by 19 runs at Bedale Cricket Club. After the final James Botham was selected for North Yorkshire Under 11s and I wish him the best of luck in his first match today. We then produced an awful performance against Aysgarth on Wednesday losing by 7 wickets as we failed for the second time this season to adjust to a pudding of a pitch.
The 2nd XI lost their unbeaten record at the hands of the same opposition as batting frailties eventually caught up with them. The 3rd XI under Mr Lloyd continued their winning ways with a 90 run victory at Aysgarth - Harry Halsall and Jeremy Barker shining with the bat.
The two most exciting matches were both held at Cundall, as the Under 11A match and the Under 9B match both ended in ties. With the scores level and 2 wickets in hand Aysgarth looked certain to win the Under 11 game. A run out from a direct hit followed by Jonty Banks bowling the last batsman secured a tie from the jaws of defeat. J.Sample
