Upper School v Teachers Hockey Match - A pupil Perspective

It was a hot Monday night when the Upper School v Teachers match took place. The teachers were in high, enthusiastic spirits but that proved to be short-lived...

The match began with an impressive flourish from the Upper School team. And to be fair, the teachers made a fair start too. With a skilful breakthrough from the Upper School and a slow reaction from the teachers, the Upper School took the lead with a goal from Tom Hepworth. After about 10 minutes, the staff looked red faced and had sweat pouring off them. Talk about fitness!

Within 15 minutes another 2 goals had been scored in quick succession from the Upper School. By this time, the teachers' stamina was clearly not as good as it had been in their younger days.

At half time the score was 4-0 to the Upper School.

The second half started with more fast play from the pupils. The teachers' striking team had finally got their act together, but still they couldn't score.  Mr Sample missed a virtually open goal, hitting the ball well wide of the goal mouth.

The match finished 8-0 to the pupils, which wasn't bad on the teachers' part, as they are getting on a bit these days.

All in all the match was played in good spirits and the teachers remained cheerful and enthusiastic in the face of adversity. But there's just one thing left to say to them - losers!

We was robbed...

And, actually, we're not that old!

Summer Art Exhibition and Art Sale

On Saturday 13th June, we are holding our very first Student Art Exhibition. We will be showcasing an extensive collection of artworks created by pupils from throughout the Main and Upper Schools. Many of the works on display can even be bought on a donation basis, with all proceeds going towards the expansion and development of the school's Art Department.

The exhibition will take place between 10am and 12.30pm on Saturday 13th June; we hope you'll be able to come along and view the magnificent works of our highly creative and talented pupils.

And finally...

A departing word from the Head of Upper School

It is just over three years since I took up my teaching post at Cundall Manor. The intervening years have flown past and I will be very sad to leave this Friday. Reflecting on my time here I have to say that I have not had as much fun in years! The pupils have been a delight (most of the time), the staff are totally committed and the level of support from parents has been second to none. However what has particularly stood out is that the pupils are always prepared to ‘have a go' at pretty well any activity they are offered. Combined with a tremendously strong sense of humour, some larger than life personalities, the confidence to try and bluff their way out of trouble but a deep down desire to commit to academic study this has produced a truly wonderful and unique working environment and one in which it has been a pleasure to teach.

I will look forward to hearing of their future successes.

With very best wishes,

Damian Chubb
