Clay Pigeon Shooting Day - Sunday 5th July

Sir Ian and Liam Botham are organising a clay pigeon shooting day on Sunday 5th July to raise funds for the Cundall Manor Appeal Fund. The clay day will now be held at Sawley, near Ripon, from 11.30-3.00. The cost will be £60 per team of two people, fantastic value as the package includes drinks and a Hog Roast: non shooters are welcome and can come along and enjoy the day for £15 per head. Teams should comprise parent and child but older brothers and sisters who have finished school or university by then are welcome to join in the fun: there will be several competitions so everyone has a chance of winning something.  There will also be a silent auction during the afternoon - if anyone can provide a lot or two for this, please contact Sir Thomas Ingilby on 01423 770152. Entry forms are available from the Main School Office. Come to Sawley, get some practice ahead of the new shooting season, have a lot of fun - and help us buy some equipment for the new classrooms.

Form 6 Three Peaks Challenge

 3_peaks_1.JPG

 3_peaks_3.JPG

This week Form 6 did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge.  Half the year group went on Friday 5th  and the other half on Monday  8th June.  The 3 peaks is a demanding challenge; the groups walked for 12 hours, covering 22 miles and climbing Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent, Yorkshire's 3 highest peaks.   Eight pupils from Friday's group completed all 3 peaks in cold wet conditions.  All  of Monday's group completed all three peaks, in perfect walking conditions.  I was amazed at how the pupils interacted and encouraged one another to complete the challenge.  All who took part should be extremely proud of their achievement.  A huge thank you to Mrs Joyce, Madame Hunzinger, Mrs Peters, Mrs Liz Proctor and Mrs Aspinall who looked after this year's walkers.  They were well prepared with cakes and water supplies for us to stock up on throughout the walks.  Their encouragement and support was invaluable.  Thank you also to Mrs Fordy, Mr Chubb, Mr Phillips and Mrs Kempton who took part in the challenge.                                                                                             JK

 PP2 Mini Athletics Tournament

All PP2 children from Cundall and Highfield took part in a mini Athletics tournament held at Highfield.  The children had the opportunity to compete against each other in a number of events including running, jumping and distance throwing.

All children tried their best and were successful especially with the sprinting races!  The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all (despite some disapproving looks towards the skipping ropes from some of the boys; they were a little surprised to find themselves competing in a skipping challenge!).

A BIG well done to all the PP2 children who demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship skills and represented Cundall Manor very well indeed!  Also thank you to all the parents who came to support the event.  If any parents managed to catch some of the action, please could you email any photographs to edgar.home@onyxnet.co.uk   Many thanks.                                                                                                          AC

Tennis

We had a busy weekend, two teams went to Pocklington on Saturday morning and we had a wonderful time having 12 matches going at one time.  The standard was very high with the Pocklington team fielding six Yorkshire players, however we did win some matches.  The green team (U10) were also playing a league match against Knaresborough and James Gordon beat the No.1 seed and Antony, Jonty and Harry all had very close matches and played very well.  The U9 (orange team) played as well, Ben, Louella and Emilia all having some good matches,  Emilia came first equal.                                                                                                     M-RB

Cundall Karting Challenge

A cool dry night welcomed the eighteen teams to the Teesside Autodrome for the Cundall Karting Challenge last Thursday evening.  A thirty minute qualifying session came first with the Pickhill Lads, Fory's Flyers and the Phoenix Flyers taking the front row of the grid.  A hectic ninety minute race then followed with some very dubious overtaking manoeuvres, numerous spins and visits to the scenery by most teams.  The race lead went down to the final couple of laps with the Phoenix Flyers eventually taking the chequered flag, followed home by Fordy's Flyers and the Sinderby Suicide Jockeys.  The wooden spoon went to the Big Blockes Racing Team.  Thank you to all the teams that took part, we raised £630 for the Cundall Appeal.                        Tony Sowerby

Rounders Round-Up

Wednesday 3rd June

Tuesday 9th June

U9 v Terrington won 13 ½ - 8 ½

U9 v St Olaves (won) 14 ½ -10 ½

U8 v Terrington drew 3-3

U10 v St Olaves (won) 10 ½ - 9 ½

U11 Tournament at Cundall

U11 v St Olaves (won) 13-9

Eight schools played in the U11 tournament hosted by Cundall.  There were some fantastic matches in the group stages with 1st and 2nd places having to be decided by rounder difference.  Cundall went through in second position but won their semi-final match to make the final against Queen Mary's whom they had lost to in the group stages.  The tension was palpable in the final and with just 18 good balls Cundall clinched the trophy winning 2-1 ½.  A fantastic afternoon and many thanks to Mrs Walkland for organising the event.

Three Cundall teams braved the inclement weather and showed that they were made of strong stuff winning their matches against St Olaves.  Well done to all the girls for their stoicism and particularly to Olivia Longstaff who was awarded a match ball for scoring 6 rounders.                                                                               SM-W

Firstly congratulations to Tom, Felix, Charlie, Robbie and Myles who represented Hambleton and Richmond Under 13s on Tuesday and good luck to James, George and Alex who represent the Nidderdale League Under 11 team on Sunday.

It has been another busy week of fixtures! The U15s were knocked out of the Hambleton Cup by Easingwold but a well constructed 60 from Alex Shepherd helped us to achieve a 30 run victory against St Peter's.

In a post Common Entrance celebration the Under 13 teams dressed up in coloured clothing turned the music up and played 20/20 matches against St Olaves. Chasing 130 to win a powerful 97 not out by captain Felix Adams meant the 1st XI overhauled the total in the sixteenth over for the loss of only 2 wickets. The 2nd XI failed to score enough runs and even the 3rd XI lost their 100% record. Mr Bayley ensured a well deserved win for the 4th XI whilst all the junior matches were abandoned on Tuesday as we finally succumbed to the driving rain.

Yesterday the U12s reached the semi final of the North Yorkshire Cup with victory over Rossett School while the Under 11s lost to Woodleigh by 7 wickets.

With lots of Cup ties still to be played and House matches for all boys in Forms 3 to 6 on Saturday there is still plenty of cricket ahead.                                                                                                                                                 J.Sample
