Quiz Night

A huge thank you for the fantastic support of last Friday's highly entertaining Parents' Quiz Night. Thanks in particular to Mrs & Mrs Bailey and Mr & Mrs Jay,  for setting the questions (and pitching them just right!), to Mssrs Vale and Phillips for conducting the quiz with such panache, to Raines of Helperby for the scrumptious meal, to the Art department for their superb team banners and standards, to everyone who so generously donated raffle prizes, to the ‘front of house' staff, and of course to everyone who attended and made it such a fun night. Together we raised just shy of £2000.

In a closely contested battle, during which several unscrupulous tactics were deployed, (involving internet enabled mobile phones, bribes to passing pupils, and comfort breaks that included a detour to the library) the final victors were Saxons, closely followed by Stuarts, Tudors and Normans.

It was great to see the effort that everyone put into passing, and moving on to the next level.

Please could parents ensure that all club members have a set of sparring gloves and shin/inset guards, as these are an integral part of using karate techniques with a partner. They can be purchased from sports outlets or via Mr Robinson at school.

Friend of Cundall Hair Accessories

The Friends of Cundall hair accessories are on sale in the Uniform Shop. All proceeds to Friends of Cundall.

Did you know....?

This week is Woolly Hat Week! To mark the occasion, Mrs Kuit and Mme Harris' Adventurers group has been eagerly knitting woolly hats for the Sailors' Society, founders of Woolly Hat Week. Our woolly hats will join the 20,000 other woollen creations that the Sailors' Society will be sending to sailors around the world to help keep the warm as they brave the high seas.

Mrs Kuit will be participating in other knitting initiative throughout the year - all donations of knitting wool will be greatly appreciated.

Head Lice

Please can all parents check the children's hair for lice over the half term break - and treat if necessary!

Cake Stall - Friday 12th February

The Friends will be holding a bring and buy cake stall at pick up time (3.20pm) next Friday. All offers of support will be eagerly accepted. Cakes, buns, biscuits can be delivered to Malcolm in the morning deliver (or brought along 3.00pm) and there's always room for an additional pair of hands on the stall itself. And of course, please ensure your children bring their spending money on Friday!

Are You a Wine Buff or Wine Bluffer?

Do you know your oloroso from your orvieto?

Your chelois from your chardonnay?

Or your bardolino from your barbaresco?

Does Mr Pearson...?

Or Mr Turner...?

Or indeed Mr P...!

Come and judge for yourself at the Friends of Cundall Call My Bluff Wine Tasting

on Friday 19th March.

Sample the range of hand picked wines from around the world

and decide which of our panels is telling the truth, and which is bluffing.

Tickets will be going on sale after half term.

PYJAMA DAY and PYJAMA PARTY in Aid of Haiti, Tuesday 9th February

Thank you to everybody who supported our pyjama party for Haiti this Tuesday. It was great to see so many  - pupils and staff - enter into the spirit of the day. Although our costumes were colourful and comical, we did not lose sight of the purpose of the day. Many lessons offered an opportunity to discuss the terrible plight of the earthquake victims and we all watched a moving video at the end of the pyjama party.

We raised £541.28

Kilimanjaro here we come!

Mr Dicken has asked us to include the following appeal on behalf of the Daisy Chain Project:

On Saturday 13th February, I and 14 others will be heading out to climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for autistic children. At over 19,000 feet, Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest mountain and certainly no walk in the park. I have being doing some serious training and have lost about 2 stone preparing for the climb. With a success rate of only around 60% (Roman Abramovich recently failed to summit, collapsing just 4000 feet from the top, I'm beginning to wonder what I've let myself in for!

The charity I'm supporting,  Daisy Chain, helps and supports families/carers from the North East who are affected by autism. Daisy Chain is currently raising funds to build a respite centre on its 5.5 acre farm in Norton (Stockton on Tees). It has already developed an animal petting farm, sensory room, play area and horticultural area. You can find out more about Daisy Chain and view a fabulous video on their website www.daisychainproject.co.uk

If you would like to support me and help me through the tough times ahead, please make a donation through my Just Giving website page www.justgiving.com/Marcus-Dicken.

I would be extremely grateful.
