 Flying Scholarships for the Disabled

Some of you may know of my involvement with the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a charity which operates two Tall Ships specially adapted to take people of all abilities and disabilities for adventures at sea.  This year, I have become involved (in a medical capacity) in another fabulous charity, ‘Flying Scholarships for the Disabled', giving people with disabilities the opportunity to learn to fly.  The primary aim of the scheme is to give such men and women from all walks of life the chance to challenge their infirmities and realise their full potential.  So far, nearly 300 candidates have been awarded scholarships, several of whom have qualified for their Private Pilot's Licence.  All have rediscovered themselves through taking part and there can be nothing more rewarding than to see the renewal of energy and self-belief each scholar experiences.  To find out more, please visit www.toreachforthesky.org.uk

I have agreed to help them with some fund-raising, and to that end am doing my first (and only!)  tandem sky-dive on September 3rd at South Cerney airfield (near Cirencester).  I am funding the jump myself, but if you would like to help this wonderful charity by sponsoring me for this feat, I should be most grateful.  All the money raised goes directly towards flying lessons for the successful candidates, and giving them the opportunity of a lifetime.

If you wish to make a donation, please either contact me at foxy.doc@hotmail.com, or via the school office.

Very many thanks.    Dr Liz House

School Disco

The End of Term Disco, for Forms 1 to Form 6, is on Thursday 8th July, at 7.30pm. The dress code is NEON! Entry is £2, payable at the door. Please bring pocket money for ice-cream and candy floss.

Summer Library Books

If any pupils would like to borrow books from the library to read over the summer holidays, please see Mrs Kayll before the end of term.

Mrs Kayll will be giving the library and thorough overhaul during the summer break. If any parents could spare any tome to help Mrs Kayll with this formidable task, please can they let her know before the end of term.

Bunting

Mrs Greenwood and Mrs Raine have kindly offered to make bunting for the schoo over the summer holiday. All donations of cotton fabrics and offcuts, plain or patterned, will be very gratefully received (as would any help in making up the bunting!).

Fashion and Textiles

The Art Department would be grateful for donations of any dressmaking equipment, machinery, materials, mannequins etc to help kit out our new fashion and textiles facility.

 Beadnell Hampers

Raine's of Helperby are taking orders for hampers for parents joining the school outing to Beadnell Sands. Please call 01423 360201 to place your order.

Please can all pupils remember to bring sun cream, a sun hat and a water bottle for games or any other outdoor activities. Thank you
